Our Herd
We take pride in our role as steward of both livestock and land.
We don’t just see dollar signs when we look out across our herd. Instead, we see opportunities to improve our work, our traditions, and the health of animals and health of the land—year after year.
Our Cows
It’s been over 15 years since we began our livestock business with just five heifers—originally purchased to help control the grasses around the ranch property. Since then, our experience and knowledge around the industry and what we set out to accomplish as a business have continued to improve our livestock practices as well as our end consumer product.
We choose to calve in the late spring and early summer to reduce calf and maternal death rates during our harsh Colorado winters, and participate in rotational grazing of our entire herd in order to promote increased health and production in our stock while also looking after the rangeland to avoid over-use and healthy year-to-year growth.
Our decision to maintain our own breeding bulls also allows us better control over the quality and fertility of the offspring born on the ranch.
Our Land
Equally important to the health of our animals is the health of the land they thrive on. We work continually to improve the rangelands and ranch property by choosing water and fence infrastructure that causes the least amount of damage to the land.
